Hey Guys, Mark here,
It has been a little bit for us since we have popped our heads into the Charts but here we are again, round two has officially kicked off!! We have just put the finishing touches to our 2nd Album "Science & Faith" and I felt compelled to write a blog to let you all know the thinking behind this new journey we are on.
So to all... welcome to our new site and Music, thanks so much for sticking by us. Much Love.
Every Band has their whole life to write their 1st Album but only 4 months to write their 2nd... So the difficult 2nd Album is born and we couldn't be happier with it. Out of necessity, we wrote and produced our 1st Album because truthfully there wasn't anyone out there who really knew us enough to jump on board and produce it for us. But that journey, I believe, lead us to producing our own signature sound. Something every band wants.
A couple of lessons I personally learned is 1. Art is the only justification for pain, and 2. It's by copying your heros and getting it wrong do we stumble across something original. If we had of used Timbaland or someone of that stature you're basically going to them for their sound but that's just not us. These songs needed the personal touch so struggle on we did. Taking all them 1st Album lessons forward to taking the HUGE task of writing and producing Album 2 was super important to us. It's been said to us so many times, "how are you gonna find the inspiration for this record now that you have expressed so much on the 1st?" Simple, there is no off switch for hurt and pain, when you go through the shit you don't just write about it and it's all forgotten, as you well know.. we have been through so much over the years, and to be real, we have been unemployed musicians for WAY longer than we have been employed ones;) there's shit loads to talk about.
The Album
My feeling is most people will think, an Irish Band with the title "Science & Faith" have got to be taking on Religion and Science but No there is nothing in this record that is about that. What we mean by "Science & Faith" is simply the ebb and flow between woman and man within a relationship... or not;) These songs are just stories and social observations that we go through on a daily basis. It may not be your thing.. but that's cool. I don't make music for everyone else anyway, we express ourselves and hope the end result will be connection with other people around the world but that's not always the case.
Normally you have to write a ton of songs to find 10 you're happy with but this was so weird, we wrote 10 for 10.. and then some. When all the touring angst wore off we just couldn't stop. I believe each song has something HUGE in it. It sounds that way too, we really struggled on this record to write something simple but couldn't .. they are all huge topics with the music to match but every Song, every Album is like a photograph, just a snap shot of what we're going through at that time, and this is just that, so open your eyes and ears and enjoy the sound we have bled over.
It's such a labor of love for us that we're just so happy to be heard. For track by track explanations we have shot footage of us explaining each song, which I believe is cool because I love it when an artist explains the thinking behind a piece of work.. love it. For those interested we will upload that soon.
Artwork
The Artwork had to reflect the overall mood of what we're tryna say here. As you can see we used the Male and Female hands on the cover underneath the title to illustrate our point of that struggle between us both sexes. Miscommunication is just an understatement. They're positioned in an almost arm wrestle style to signify the struggle between us, within the Artwork we have compiled a bunch of similar pieces to signify and tell the song's story and meaning through picture form. Not the obvious type but more a picture to explain the feeling the song may give us.
Done with the usual twist too and again we couldn't be happier here either. This lends itself to so much for our tours etc.. can't wait to get some feedback from you guys on it. Hope you like it, too late if you don't.. lol.
I'm trying not to give too much away and leave something to the imagination but I think you will agree when I say we have hit the mark.
Website
This leads me to the new website. We're so involved with every aspect of what we do so it takes a little more time to get the job done because we can only work on so much at any given time but it's about quality for us so it's worth it. We have redesigned our site to simply stay current and with the times.. we're so into the internet and I suppose it's where we 1st kicked it all off.. Our Myspace days have given us the major lesson of breaking down that bridge between band and supporter. I look at websites all the time and bloody hate when I'm faced with the silly option to view it in flash or HTML. Sorry you've just lost me...lol too much time wasted on pages loading...BORING. I personally love the kind of experience that I can get on Facebook/Myspace and Twitter where it's simple, the "NOW" factor is what we want, what are you up to right now? We like to share moments of our journey and keep that updated as much as possible so keeping it simple is a huge priority.
Those who are interested can almost experience this with us. When we travel and tour and we see and experience so much that just simply has to be shared.. take me for example. I'm shit scared of heights, don't ask why I may bore you to tears with the answer but at the end of the day I'm terrified. So I've set myself a personal challenge.. walk over the Sydney harbour bridge when we're there in October.
Those who know me know that pampers should sponsor it. Anyway this gives us the chance to document it live from our own personal gadgets for your entertainment. Here's the link so laugh away at the suit but I've worn worse;) I hope there's room for the nappy.
www.bridgeclimb.com
So we have implemented Twitter and all the usuals so we can stay in-touch with all our friends in those sites. Again welcome to our central database for everything Script, warts and all, it won't be pretty;)
What excites me most is that we can see live how our music is effecting the different countries around the world, something I think musicians take for granted these days. Please come hang out and share away any thoughts and madness that we can do in your home town or just watch 3 Irish lads lost in translation. We have tried hooking up subtitles when we speak but it's way funny to hear what people think we mean and say on a daily basis. And if there's drink involved then good luck to anyone who isn't Irish understand us.. maybe that's when the subtitles come out;)
Guys thanks again for your support in this endeavour. We just wouldn't be anything without you.
Stay logged and tuned in, we're about to be launched into the crazy world again, god help you;)
Peace and Love
Mark
